And the winner is...03 August 2011
We had lots of great entries to our Electric Cinema Ice Cold in Alex / Staying Cool Penthouse stay competition and it was a very tough decision but in the end we thought Kirsten Machray was a worthy winner... Here's what Kirsten wrote to secure her night in the penthouse with champagne this Friday night and a trip to the Electric on Saturday to see Ice Cold in Alex. Congratulations Kirsten.
I'm not usually much of a competition enter-er (or good with grammar, apparently!) but when I saw the date of the prize I thought it was worth a little go. I've been with my brummie boyfriend for three years, and the August 5th weekend is our anniversary. Honestly! - I still have the awkward 'Do you maybe want to go out like on a date with me?' text to prove it. On our first date he actually took me to the Electric; I'm a country girl so he spent the entire day showing off all his favourite bits of the city, knowing it would impress me, and you were the grand finale. I was dazzled by the date, the city and by him too, and have been ever since. We were planning on keeping costs low by staying home for our anniversary this year, but if an amazing opportunity like this was offered to us, we'd really know how to make the most of it. I think we'd revisit the Chinese restaurant we went to three years ago before getting an early night to make the most of the amazing penthouse (by which I mean, it comes with lots of free gadgets that need to be appreciated! I've never even used a juicer before...) and drinking champagne on the balcony. The next morning, we'd eat far too much breakfast and then go and chill in the Botanic Gardens, one of my favourite parts of Birmingham, with a little picnicking before heading back to enjoy Ice Cold in Alex at the Electric. As he loves the movie I might even be able to get him to spring for my cocktail this time! Then it would be off to Jekyll & Hyde for the evening, finally capping it off with late night burritos at Bodega.
I'm sure you'll have a lot of great entries for this, and it might not be the dramatic or glamorous plan you're looking for. But it's just everything I'd love to do in Birmingham in 24 hours with the amazing Rotunda thrown in, so for me it couldn't get any better! Either way, this is a great chance to let you know that the Electric has some great memories for me, and I know that that's true for so many other people too: you have all our support. I hope you have lots of fun entries to read!
Well done Kirsten, we'll be in touch via email to firm up arrangements.
