A very moving commemoration of the start of World War I, called the Minimum Monument, took place in Birmingham this weekend.
5,000 small figures made of ice were placed on the steps of Chamberlain Square and allowed to slowly melt. The event was captured by photographer Verity Milligan and you can see more images like the one below on her Facebook page.
Take a stroll down from Rotunda to Digbeth tomorrow (Sat, Aug 2nd) and you can enjoy a very funky Summer Market. The market has a vintage twist and you'll be able to sample craft beers served from a classic Routemaster bus, cocktails from a 19070s VW, waffles from a retro caravan and teas and coffees from a Morris Minor!
Fifty of the UK's most innovative traders will make up an arts market, a food producers' market and a street food/bar area. The Summer Market runs from noon until 7pm.

We're very proud supporters of Orchestra of the Swan and its autumn season has been announced including Mozart's Requiem at Symphony Hall with the City of Birmingham Choir. A must see/listen for classical fans!
The Birmingham Beer Bash starts today offering a selection of beers from the hottest breweries in Britain and around the world. There's also street food on offer and a "fringe" that seeks to educate and inform.
