Two seriously cool arts festivals are coming up in Birmingham.
Cinema lovers should check out Flatpack Festival. Described by The Independent as, "The country's most creatively curated film festival" it's a wonderful, eclectic festival. Flatpack runs from 14th-18th March.
Fierce, the city's international festival of live art and performance, runs from March 29th-April 8th. We're intrigued by some of the pieces exploring the highs and lows of love; embark on an emotional Berlin Love Tour on the streets of Birmingham or take part in Uninvited Guests' Love Letters Straight From Your Heart (fresh from a sell-out run at London's Southbank Centre) in which love song dedications from the audience are woven into the performance.
On Birmingham itself, Visit England says, "While thousands whizz straight past Britain's second city every hour, on their way north or south, they're missing out on some fabulous shopping, delicious food - and cutting edge contemporary art."
We couldn't agree more!
Congratulations to Tamalyn Roberts and Ed Keep who each won a Brownie Extravaganza gift box in our Cocoa Loco competition. They'll be with you soon.
We have two Chocolate Brownie Extravaganza gift boxes to give away. They come courtesy of Cocoa Loco, an award-winning, artisan company.
The Chocolate Brownie Extravaganza boxes contain a dozen brownies. We can verify that they are seriously delicious.
To enter, simply email firstname.lastname@example.org using 'Cocoa Loco' as the header and tell us which county Cocoa Loco is based in.
A winner will be drawn at random. The competition ends on Sunday, February 26th 2012 at 9pm. Prize delivered in mainland UK only.
Guests at the Rotunda can enjoy a special exhibition of drawings by Leonarda da Vinci until March 25th, 2012.
The free exhibition at the nearby Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery is part of the Royal Collection. It is touring five UK galleries as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations and Birmingham is the first.
Staying Cool's Rotunda apartments are featured in a Sunday's Times article on self-catering accommodation offering "affordable luxury and added extras".
The piece, by Susan d'Arcy, was published on February 19th and said, "The New York Times recently named our second city as one of the hottest destinations for 2012. (It has more miles of canal than Venice, apparently, although fewer palazzi.) The article waxed lyrical about the culinary scene and the famous balti belt. Its favourite place to stay? Staying Cool's apartments atop the Rotunda, which have bespoke sofas, Macs and Poggenpohl kitchens with espresso machines."
The transformation of Birmingham's New Street rail station continues apace. The curvy, reflective steel facade should look especially wonderful from Staying Cool's apartmentsat the top of the Rotunda.
Many of our guests travel by train and the new ' fly through' video from Network Rail shows that they'll soon be able to arrive here in style.
What may be the UK's most stylish Valentine's date is on offer to guests at Staying Cool at the Rotunda this February. Kim Richards, Staying Cool's Birmingham Manager, said, "What could be better than a chic, private apartment; a free bottle of champagne chilling in the fridge; and 'Casablanca' at the funky Electric cinema just around the corner? It's stylish yet seductive."
Anyone booking at the Rotunda online for February 10th, 11th, 14th, 17th or the 18th February, 2012 will find a bottle of champagne chilling in the fridge on arrival if they use VALENTINE in the rate code box.
The nearby Electric Cinema is showing Casablanca from the 11th-14th Feb and The Artist from the 17th-23rd.
Staying Cool is offering discounts for family stays at the Rotunda up until the end of April 2012, alongside an on-going Cool for Kids package of free extras.
Our Cool for Kids package offers free extras for families, ranging from baby cots to dressing up boxes. There's fun to be had for adults too with treats such as spa treatments available in the apartments.
A 10% online discount is available from now until the end of April 2012 via stayingcool.com or by calling 0121 285 1290 quoting FAMILY10.
The 5* and 4* serviced apartments in Birmingham, recommended by The New York Times in January 2012, have proved very popular with families since they opened in 2008.
Kim Richards, Staying Cool's Birmingham Manager, said, "Everyone deserves some glamour in their lives, especially parents. Our apartments are very practical and convenient for families, but they're also beautifully designed with stunning views and great interiors."
There's been great excitement here as we have been recommended by The New York Times.
Reporter Mark Vanhoenacker's piece 36 Hours in Birmingham is a fascinating guide to the very best the city has to offer. We're very proud to have been included.
"I liked the fact that all the food products were fairtrade/organic (excellent!). The flat was lovely, wish I had somewhere like that in London.." Kate Cater, Life & Style Editor, The Guardian
"Someone has put a lot of thought into making the stay a wonderful experience for guests, and it shows." Made for Mums
"..brilliant either for a short break with kids or just for a night or weekend away without them if your batteries need recharging." The Baby Website
