The apartment faces on to Carrer Bon Success - packed with bakeries, cafes, bars and restaurants. 39 Steps is close to MACBA, the Museum of Modern Art.

We prime the apartment with all the basics and some lovely extras - tea/ground coffee/toiletries/oranges and a complimentary bottle of Cava. Collapse. Recuperate. Explore.

This one-bedroom serviced apartment lies on the second floor of an old building (1788 to be precise). Historical features, such as the tiny Juliet balcony, provide the perfect foil for a gorgeous modern interior. The living room's French windows look out over Carrer Bon Success: world class people-watching. The galley kitchen and bathroom are sleek and modern. There's a simple, relaxing double bedroom at the quiet rear of the building.

Things that guests love about 39 Steps

  • The beautiful, timeworn marble stairs
  • Gorgeous modern interior in a historic building
  • Feeling like a local
  • It's perfectly located
  • Air conditioning and heating from one unit
  • Funky, walk-in shower

Things that they might not

  • A Louis Vuittton steamer trunk would be nigh on impossible to get up the narrow staircase
  • There's no oven, just a hob, microwave, toaster, kettle and espresso maker - but who wants to cook with all those lovely restaurants nearby?
  • The TV can only be used to watch DVDs
