What To See and Do in Barcelona

Food is a passion in this city. Ultimately, you'll be spoilt for choice whether you want simple tapas or Michelin starred places such as Alkimia - Barcelona is a foodie paradise.

Every part of the city has its own market and the apartment is very close to one of the biggest -  la Boqueria - with hundreds of stalls. The city's restaurants make the most of all this fresh produce - even relatively modest restaurants offer really good food.  We're fond of  Mama Café which is close to the apartment and a great place for lunch with the locals.  Bar Kasparo has a terrace on a quiet square just around the corner for drinks and tapas on balmy evenings.

Culture. Where to begin?  Macba - Barcelona's Museum of Contemporary Art - is a minimalist building only two or three minutes away from the apartment with some fascinating exhibitions. The city offers other highlights such as the Fundació jJoan Miró and the  Museo Picasso, housed in a gorgeous gothic palace.

Modernist architecture - particularly that of Antoni Gaudi - is huge in Barcelona. Gaudi's yet-to-be-completed Sagrada Familia is unmissable and you can explore other modernist buildings such as La Predrera.

Barcelona offers fabulous retail opportunities, but our love of retro furniture means that Gotham gives us joy.

But one of our favourite, simple things about the city is that it's by the sea. Leave your apartment, walk yards to La Rambla and then follow the broad pedestrian street all the way down to the Mediterrean. Or meander through the fascinating  Gothic Quarterand take your time to enjoy fine architecture and the sights and sounds of this great place as you head for the sea.
