Staying Cool at Rotunda has a front row seat when it comes to the latest fashion, gifts and gadgets with some of the most exciting and exclusive brands right on our doorstep.

So if you want to buy something special or just fancy exploring Birmingham’s fantastic shopping scene here’s our guide to 24 hours of retail and other therapy during your stay.  And at the end of the day it’s just a short stroll back to one of our stylish penthouses and apartments where you can relax with a warm bath and enjoy stunning panoramic views while the sun sets over the city.

24 hours in Birmingham

8.30am – Drop your overnight bags at our Staying Cool reception and we’ll take them up for you and text you when your apartment is ready.

9am – Pop next door and get in the zone before heading for the shops with coffee at ‘the most Instagrammable café in the world.’ Known for its stunning pink interiors and floral walls it’s no surprise that EL&N’s cafes are a hit with influencers. Its stylish interiors provide the perfect backdrop for its gorgeous latte art and pretty patisserie. Perfect for topping up your Insta grid.

10am – Time to hit the shops! Thankfully the Midlands’ most popular retail and leisure destination, Bullring & Grand Central, is just a few steps from Staying Cool at Rotunda.

Last year saw a flurry of new big name arrivals, including the West Midlands’ first Bershka and Pull & Bear stores. The popular streetwear brands, which offer urban-style mens’, womens’ and teen wear, are next to each other on Bullring’s Upper Level.

US sportswear giant Nike has also opened its first Nike Rise Concept Store outside of London. Inside shoppers can use technology to find their perfect products. The store, which is opposite the Bullring’s iconic bull, stocks the latest Nike men’s, women’s, kids’ and Jordan ranges and hosts special events like workouts and run clubs.

It’s hard to miss M&S’ new two-storey mega store, which has replaced the former Debenhams.Inside you’ll discover its signature clothing, home and beauty departments and a fresh market-style food hall, as well as a dedicated wine shop where you can pick up a bottle to enjoy back at your Staying Cool apartment (or ask us to pick one up for you).

11am. Fancy a new look or unsure what to buy? We can help you shop like an A-lister! Staying Cool has teamed up with Selfridges’ personal shopping team to offer guests expert advice at no extra cost. You can visit them at its Bullring store as part of our special Personal Shopping Experience. There you’ll get to relax in Selfridges’ private shopping area and enjoy complimentary refreshments, including Champagne.

Or enjoy a video call with the team from the comfort of your Staying Cool apartment. Selfridges will deliver a personalised edit of items to you there.

Styling, beauty and gifting sessions are available and fast-track entrance to the store is included.

Midday: Head over to Mailbox for more retail therapy at Harvey Nichols. You’ll find luxury brands including Gucci, Alexander McQueen and Stone Island. After that enjoy a value two-course canalside lunch at Cote Brasserie, which serves seasonal French food, followed by a towpath stroll along the city centre’s pretty waterways.

3pm: It’s time to check-in at Staying Cool and enjoy a glass of something lovely in your room while admiring your new purchases. The stunning panoramic views from our penthouses and apartments make the ideal backdrop for photos of your favourite fashion buys.  

5pm: If you can’t get enough of Staying Cool’s breathtaking views head to Orelle’s elegant restaurant and cocktail bar in the clouds at 103 Colmore Row. Perched on the 24th floor you can sip innovative cocktails by some of the city’s best mixologists and enjoy a menu featuring a contemporary take on French cuisine while soaking up views over the city. Try and spot your apartment at our iconic Rotunda building across the way.

Or head out for pre-dinner drinks with a difference at Vagabond on Colmore Row. or Loki Wine in Great Western Arcade. Both have unique self-pour machines to let you choose from more than 100 wines. All you need to do is tap your contactless and pour.. Vagabond also has a self-serve craft beer wall while Loki offers great nibbles.

7pm: Birmingham boasts some of the country’s finest restaurants so you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out. Indian fine dining restaurant Opheem in Summer Row is the first in the city to win two Michelin stars.

Or how about trying Plates by Purnells in Edmund Street which is run by another Michelin-star winning local chef, Glynn Purnell? The cosy restaurant in Edmund Street serves sharing dishes inspired by classic Spanish Tapas.

For another out of this world dining experience go to Six By Nico on Colmore Row where customers are treated to a six-course tasting menu designed around a concept or destination. The menu changes every six weeks and recent themes have included The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and the Vietnamese city of Hanoi.

9.30pm: End your night with one for the road (or rather one for the stroll back to your apartment) at stylish contemporary Italian restaurant, cocktail bar and late lounge Fumo Bar & Grill in Waterloo Street where resident DJs spin tracks at the weekend.

You can also sip a cocktail or two while enjoying La Dolce Vita at Riva Blu in Temple Row. This glamorous restaurant and bar is inspired by Southern Italy and boasts a large alfresco terrace for balmy evenings.

10.30pm: Head back to your chic Staying Cool penthouse or apartment for more twinkling views over the city and a relaxing night’s sleep among the clouds in one of our sumptuous King-sized beds.  

9am: Enjoy a leisurely start to the day with a fresh juice and bean-to-cup coffee in your apartment. Each of our fully fitted Poggenpohl kitchens has a Melitta Espresso Maker with fresh beans from our local independent roasters Quarter Horse.

You’ll also find oranges and grapefruit for the juicer and a selection of cereals and milk.

10am: You don’t need to check-out until noon so there’s time for a stroll across the city centre to pick up a memento of your visit from Great Western Arcade. This Grade II listed Victorian gem, which runs between Colmore and Temple Rows, is home to some of the city’s best independents. You’ll find award-winning fashion boutiques, hair and beauty salons, food and drink experts, and more. Loki Wine and The Whisky Shop are ideal for gifts while kids and grown-ups will love a retro treat from Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe. Love Heart Lipsticks and Pick & Mix anyone?  

Fashion fans can pick up a bargain at Designer Exchange which sells classic vintage clothing and accessories.
