Plastic's Not Fantastic
Thursday January 24, 2019
Did you know that we're members of the Green Tourism scheme? We currently hold a silver award, but we're working hard to move up to gold.
We recently found a solution to one of our ongoing issues with plastic: how to reduce waste from the fresh milk provided for guests.
Our serviced apartments have fully-equipped Poggenpohl kitchens and on arrival our guests find everything they need to make a cup of tea or coffee including milk. However, we don't like the wasteful tiny, plastic UHT milk pots most hotels rely on, so we have always put a fresh pint of milk in guests' fridges. However, we were then left with the empty plastic cartons. Recently, we changed milk supplier to enable us to return milk cartons to the dairy for recycling. That’s around 100 being re-used every week, which is a brilliant change. If you'd like to learn more about what we do to protect the environment, please see our page on all things Green.
The shot below shows our resident cow, Clarissa, with an average week's carton recycling! Clarissa lives on the spacious deck of our Clubman Cabriolet apartment.
