Foodie staycations at Rotunda

We’ve teamed up with long-time friend Alex Claridge, chef-owner of the acclaimed 3 AA Rosette restaurant The Wilderness in Birmingham to bring you a series of high-end foodie staycations. We paired Alex’s provocative dining experience with the sleek and stylish interiors of our iconic Rotunda serviced apartments to create the ultimate socially distanced nights away.

The first three events in July and August were a sell-out. We are working on our next event this Autumn so if you want to be the first to hear about it then do sign up to our newsletter.

What the food critic said

The Telegraph’s food and travel writer, Lizzie Frainier, had this to say when she joined us for the first event,

“The scallop starter was standout.”

“Once you’re settled in, the indulgent feeling of not having to leave the room at all is rather romantic.

“Being able to watch the city come back to life from high above through an open floor-to-ceiling window upped the ante on the sense of freedom and celebration that we all seem to be looking for now…”

Tell me more about the foodie staycation

Alex and his team cooked three or four course dinners, serve (contact free) in the comfort of your own apartment while you enjoy panoramic views across the city from the top floors of the Rotunda. Tables are set ahead of check-in to create the perfect private dining room experience.

Alex and his team explain the food first-hand via both pre-recorded videos and a live stream, guiding you and your companion through plating up the food, for an interactive chef’s table experience. This is restaurant-style dining but from the safety of your own individual apartment. Vegan, vegetarian and pescatarian alternatives available. Most allergies are catered for too.

The menu, inspired by the best of Birmingham’s fusion flavours and Alex’s daring style, can be paired with wines curated by their head sommelier and winner of GQ sommelier of the Year 2018, Sonal Clare. We aim to bring the romanticism of room service and the glamour of dining out together for a first of its kind.

Following dessert, you can relax and enjoy a change of scene from your new normal. Watch the sun go down or kick back in front of the TV in the comfort of your own apartment.

We actively encourage you to dress up for the occasion. Our floor to ceiling windows make the perfect photo backdrop for the ‘Gram.

And for breakfast

The next morning you can wake up to a memorable breakfast with a Wilderness twist. With a 12 noon check-out you will have plenty of time to soak up the views.

“Our restaurant experience at The Wilderness has always been one of escape and of bending quite what’s expected, and this pop up will be no different. Whilst both holidays and dining out as we remember them aren’t quite possible just yet, we wanted to do something which brought some of the best aspects of both together for the guests we love to serve.  This set up means diners can be assured that social distancing is observed while enjoying a cool welcome break with fine dining that has been sorely missed. We can’t wait to offer guests an experience which is truly exciting and unique, and one borne of its time,” Chef Alex Claridge.
