What's On in Birmingham This September?
Thursday September 1, 2016
As always, there are some brilliant events coming up in Birmingham this month including Heritage Open days, Reggae Cook Outs, food festivals and top-class comedy. This is our pick of events taking place around the city centre during September 2016.
- Reggae Caribbean Cook Out (4th September, The Coffin Works)
Just writing about this event makes the mouth water! Enjoy a Jamaican style cookout and rum cocktails plus a seriously relaxed vibe.
- Heritage Open Days (8th-11th September)
The Heritage Open Day weekend is a big deal in Birmingham. There are lots of special events across the city: to stay central you could check out tours of St Philip’s Cathedral, Ikon Gallery. St Martin’s in the Bull Ring or the Jewellery Quarter.
- The Importance of Being Earnest (9th-24th September) at the Birmingham Rep
This new production of Oscar Wilde’s classic comedy stars Cathy Tyson as the fearsome Lady Bracknell. Wilde’s witty play about class is in safe hands at the Rep.
- Birmingham Chilli Festival (16th – 17th September)
Our city is huge on food and this month brings the annual Chilli Festival. Are you brave/foolish enough to apply for the Chilli Challenge?! The festival also offers lots of delicious food, live music and street performances.
- Drink and Draw ( Saturday, 17th September) BMAG
We adore the concept of Drink and Draw! It’s a free social drawing event held in BMAG’s Edwardian Tea Rooms (alcoholic drinks are available - it is a Saturday night!).
- Issy Sutty (Friday, 23rd September, Glee Club, Birmingham)
Comedian and actress Issy Sutty (Peep Show, Shameless and Skins) brings her show ‘The Actual One’ to Birmingham’s Glee Club. The show revolves around Sutty’s fear of finally being forced to grow up in her late twenties.
Unfortunately, these anarchic pop up restaurant nights at Selfridges sold out before we published our blog, but you can still eat with the team at their restaurant, The Wilderness. It’s rated 5/5 on TripAdvisor and we love the place!
