Why we all need to support Birmingham's Brilliant Museums

Birmingham Museums Trust (BMT) is facing cuts of half a million pounds a year starting this April. An online petition has been set up to ask that the cuts be reduced. Please sign and share the petition to give your support to the great work BMT does in running attractions such as BMAG, ThinkTank science museum, Aston Hall and the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter. BMT is a registered charity that cares for the city’s wonderful museum collection, attracting over 1.2 million visits a year.

The proposed cuts to BMT's funding could result in:
  1. A substantial reduction in public access to some of Birmingham's museums, which include Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, Thinktank Birmingham Science Museum, Aston Hall, Blakesley Hall, Museum of the Jewellery Quarter, Sarehole Mill, Soho House and Weoley Castle.

  2. Fewer learning activities for students, local schools and community groups

  3. Significantly reduced public access to Birmingham’s collection for both research and public enjoyment, either in the city or through outward loans

  4. Reduced capacity to deliver projects alone or in partnership

The deadline for responses is January 18th, so please complete the petition before then.
